Singapore has been ranked the eighth safest city in the world for travelers in 2025, making it the only Southeast Asian city to secure a spot in the top 10, according to a report by North American-based travel insurance company Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection.
The report attributes Singapore’s ranking to its strict enforcement of laws, which contribute to its reputation for low crime rates and exceptional public safety. The city-state’s stringent cleanliness regulations further reinforce its disciplined environment, with first-time littering offenses carrying fines of up to S$1,000 (US$761) and repeat offenders facing fines of up to S$2,000 and Corrective Work Orders.
Singapore’s robust security measures include an extensive network of surveillance cameras in downtown areas and regular police patrols in popular tourist zones. Theft is taken seriously, with strict penalties including hefty fines and possible imprisonment of up to three years.
The list was topped by Reykjavík, Iceland, followed by Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Other cities that made the cut include Tokyo, Sydney, Montreal, Seoul, Berlin, Hong Kong, Venice, London, Honolulu, Dubai, and Barcelona.
The rankings were determined based on surveys from over 1,500 travelers who had personally visited the selected cities. Respondents assessed various safety measures, using their firsthand experiences to evaluate risks and security conditions.
With its unwavering commitment to law enforcement and public order, Singapore remains a top choice for American travelers seeking a secure and hassle-free destination.
